DoubleTree Hotel, 1150 9th Street, Modesto

Moving from Confusion to Confidence:

Using Outcomes Data to Improve Local Programs, Facilitated by W. Norton Grubb & Dr. Norena Badway , Higher Education Evaluation & Research Group

TWO WORKshop Locations are scheduled for the Central Region in 2005!

Select a WORKshop location that best fits the needs of your COLLEGE TEAM!

Workshop Dates/Location:

January 27-28, 2005 The Pines Resort & Conference Center, Bass Lake

February 3-4, 2005:  Doubletree Hotel, 1150 9th Street, Modesto

Workshops Times: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Day 1 AND 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Day 2

PLAN TO BRING A TEAM OF LEADERS FROM YOUR CAMPUS to ONE of these WORKshops!

These one and a half day workshops will be activity-based engaging TEAMS of 5 leaders from each campus.  Invite your CIO, Occupational Education Dean, Institutional Researcher, Academic Senate Representative, additional faculty.  (If there is no researcher on the campus or the researcher is unavailable, a faculty member can be substituted for the researcher.)

Through the Central Region Consortium, colleges will be allowed to offer faculty a maximum $500 stipend to attend the training and, as a requirement for the stipend, offer at least one training on the faculty’s home campus.  (Complete Faculty Stipend Agreement.  Submit with TEAM Roster as described below.)

PARTICIPANT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Use local data to plan effective program improvement strategies
  • Meet accountability and accreditation guidelines
  • Create governance processes for assessment
  • Develop and implement assessment instruments
  • Use assessment to revise instruction and student services

So, YOU may ask, “What’s in it for me?” (WIIFM?)

First, both the WASC and VTEA are asking that we document and improve student-learning outcomes, but the process by which that might take place has been confusing.  We want to address that confusion in a way that faculty feel capable of meeting external requirements, but even more, of doing what they do best:  think about improving how and which students learn.

And so, these WORKshops invite TEAMS from each campus to set data-driven priorities, write and assess student-learning outcomes, and draft a plan for implementing a SYSTEM for improving student learning.  These Student Assessment Leadership Teams * the SALT of California’s community college faculty * will be prepared to lead similar activities on their own campus.  $500 stipend provided to faculty who agree to lead similar activities on their campus.  (Stipend agreement form required.  See details below.)

NO COST TO ATTEND WORKshop!

Travel, lodging, and faculty substitute expenses will be reimbursed to each college following the WORKshop.  College must invoice Yosemite Community College District, Attn:  Sue Clark, Central Region Consortium Program Improvement, PO Box 4065, Modesto, CA 95352.  Invoice should reference Grant 04-342-001-Program Improvement Funding.  Completed travel reimbursement form (provided by Consortium) for each participant and copies of receipts must accompany invoice.  Invoice with back-up documentation MUST BE RECEIVED within 60 days of completed travel.  INDIVIDUALS will not be reimbursed for these expenses.
