An Interactive Workshop Offered by the Joint Special Populations Advisory Committee

This fast-paced, interactive workshop will illustrate ways to reduce barriers to education and training for students from special population groups.  These groups include:  students with disabilities; students who are economically disadvantaged, including single parents and displaced homemakers; students entering a career nontraditional to their gender, and students who have limited proficiency in English.  Strategies and resources for serving each student group will be discussed.

The workshop will include hands-on activities that simulate the experiences of special population groups and that model successful instructional strategies.  For part of the session, participants will work in pairs or small groups.

The workshop will utilize resources and information developed in California and across the country.  Each participant will receive materials to use on their home campuses.  These include the 2003-2005 California Career Planning Guide and Supplemental Material Workbooks to support each special population group.  The content of the workshop will be in a Power Point presentation.  All participants will receive copies of the Power Point presentation in addition to other handouts.
