Meet with WIBs in Region

Discuss workshop(s) to promote collaboration and linkages between Local WIBs: Tentative meeting dates are November 18, 2004 (Fresno) and December 9, 2004 (Harris Ranch)

This idea was initially discussed during the June 2004 planning retreat.  Follow-up scheduled for this meeting to determine interest in pursuing this idea.

DISCUSSION:

Hazel Hill indicated that they are not seeing her area’s WIB (San Joaquin) doing much with business/industry.

Peter DeArmond indicated that a successful WIB partnership exists in Bakersfield area.

Larry Dutto stated we need to establish the relationship.  He shared that he has begun work to do this by taking WIB partners to his campus.  He provided tour to showcase COS programs.  As a result, WIB participants expressed interest in “marrying” resources.

Recommendation made to plan event sub-regionally (smaller scale) since there are so many political levels with regard to the WIB relationship.  It was stressed that we need to make anticipated outcomes clear.

Since there was interest expressed by the leadership present from the southern part of the region, Larry Dutto agreed to host an event to bring CC together with WIBs.  Central Region will fund event.  Larry to schedule date/location.  He indicated event would be at Holiday Inn.  Stephanie Atkinson-Alston of West Hills College, Peter DeArmond of Bakersfield College, Kim Perry of Reedley College, and Larry Dutto of COS will plan.  Elaine Gaertner also indicated interest in participating. Larry will take lead role in organizing event.

Tentative meetings previously scheduled for Nov. 18 and Dec 9, 2004 cancelled.

Sub-Region meeting with WIBs to be coordinated by Larry Dutto.

Date for this event is November 16, 2004

Regional HEERG Workshops:  Moving from Confusion to Confidence - Using Outcomes Data to Improve Local Programs

Team Rosters are due to Sue Clark by December 3, 2004 to secure a spot at HEERG workshops.
