CCCAOE Board Report

CCCAOE Board members from the Central Region will provide an update on the activities of this professional association, the California Community College’s Association for Occupational Education (CCCAOE),

Hazel reported that John Means will begin his term as CCCAOE President on July 1, 2011.

Fall 2011 conference at the Westin Hotel in San Diego, October 19-21, 2011.  Visit http://www.cccaoe.org for details.

The Spring 2012 conference will be at the Renaissance Hotel in Long Beach.

VOLUNTEERS are needed to help with several different conference activities, i.e., collect meal tickets, host break-out sessions, etc.

SUBMIT your break-out session proposals to the CCCAOE Board for the Fall conference!  Our region has some outstanding model practices.

Hazel reported that she attends the Legislative Advocacy Consultation Council meetings on a regular basis.  These are held after the BOG meeting.  Attendance at Council meetings provides a great opportunity to collect and share information.  She is able to respond to questions that come up that relate to community colleges.

Hazel also spoke for the Little Hoover Commission.  CCCAOE will continue to work with them to get support.

CCCAOE will celebrate its 40th Anniversary this year.  The Board plans to invite past presidents to celebrate during the next conference.

Carole Goldsmith, Central Region VP to the CCCAOE Board, reported that they would like to see more faculty involvement.  She would like to meet more often as a region and suggested quarterly meetings at a host site.  Career Advancement Academy events would bring CTE faculty together to participate.

Larry Dutto suggested that if a faculty focus is desired, we need to use a theme that will attract faculty by discipline.

James Preston offered the theme of the "S" curve as a curriculum workshop.  We need to talk about 5 years out.

It was also suggested that CCCAOE develop a workshop sequence for leadership.  Hazel suggested the Community Education session we experienced at our meeting on June 1st.
